Earning Money through Affiliate Programs
Saturday, March 21st, 2009Including your website in an affiliate program would be one of the best ways to earn some money. You poured your time and effort to making a good site, so there’s no reason to not earn from your website at the same time.
As you know, affiliate programs provide other web portals to have a link or an advertisement on your website. The web portals pay you for the amount of traffic generated by their links and advertisements housed on your website. This is how you earn your money.
But there are also several ways you could earn from an affiliate program. The payment scheme should be known to you before you become and affiliate.
One is the pay per impression scheme. In this payment scheme, you are being paid for the number of times the advertisement or banner is shown on your website. The amount you earn is usually based on the number of thousand impressions of the advertisement, in which impressions is equal to the number of times the advertisement is displayed. It is often abbreviated into CPM. CPM means cost per thousand, which the letter M stands for the Latin numeral for thousands. For instance, $10 CPM means that you get paid $10 per 1,000 displays of the advertisement. This kind of payment is small but it is relatively easy since you earn every time your website has a visitor. Basically, you earn more if your website attracts a lot more visitors.
Second is the pay per click scheme. In this payment scheme, you are paid when the visitors of your website actually click on the advertisements linked to the advertisers’ sites. The amount is usually higher than the pay per impression scheme. Of course, it is best for your website to have a high traffic of visitors and your advertisement or the products that they sell best suit the target audience of your website.
Third is the pay per sale or lead scheme. The most popular payment scheme is the pay per sale or revenue sharing. This means that you will only earn if the visitor clicks the advertisements on your website and actually purchases an item from the linked website. The advertiser pays you a percentage of the ordered amount of the visitor. The second more popular scheme is the pay per lead. You earn only if your visitor clicks on the advertisement on your website and performs some prescribed actions. You earn a commission for every desired action by that visitor such as filling out forms, creating an account, and subscribing to a service. This method will earn you the biggest but thus far is the slowest to earn. As with pay per click, it would be beneficial if your advertisements are actually directed towards the target audience of your website.
There are also special payment schemes such as pay per call that provides you with the opportunity to earn for every phone call received from a potential prospects as a result of the advertisement. Another is pay per install where you are paid for every installation that the user makes. These programs are usually free and have an adware attached to it.
